Founded in 1995 by Meir Tayeb, Meircell began as a modest 20 m2 assembly factory and has since grown into a cutting-edge company designing and manufacturing tailored battery systems for military and civilian use. Today, the company operates from two facilities covering 900 m2, employing 50 professionals, including three of the founder’s sons in key executive roles.
“At Meircell, we pride ourselves on end-to-end control of the process, from design through production, and on our ability to adapt quickly to the unique demands of each client,” says CEO Yaniv Tayeb, who represents the second generation of leadership. “This flexibility, along with our accumulated knowledge, allows us to meet even the tightest operational schedules of the defense sector.”

Tailored Power Systems for the Field

Meircell’s core expertise lies in advanced lithium-ion battery technologies, complemented by smart chargers, robust cable harnesses, and auxiliary power components. The company’s development cycle begins with a client’s technical requirements and continues through prototype and mass production, all carried out in Israel under strict domestic and international quality standards.
Clients include the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Rafael, Elbit Systems, and Israel Aerospace Industries. The company also provides portable energy solutions to medical device manufacturers and other civilian sectors.
“Our batteries and chargers are in routine use across the IDF, powering everything from communication systems to drones,” notes Tayeb.

Responding to Urgent Operational Demands

The events of October 7, 2023, underscored the company’s resilience. With Yaniv Tayeb called to reserve duty, his brothers and retired father ensured uninterrupted support for Israel’s defense establishment. Within two months, Meircell ramped up capacity by opening a new production department, delivering critical products to special forces and classified projects in record time.
“What used to take months can now take just days, or even hours,” Tayeb explains. “Despite the pressure, our focus remains on providing the fastest and most effective solutions for operational needs.”
This dedication is deeply rooted in the company’s values. “My father instilled in us a strong sense of duty and Zionism,” says Tayeb. “That commitment drives everything we do. Even now, while I’m serving another round of reserve duty, two of my brothers are also in uniform.”

Innovation That Saves Lives

Meircell has repeatedly proven that innovation can translate directly into mission success. In 2021, during a conflict with Hamas, the company helped the IDF restore defective batteries free of charge by training soldiers to bypass malfunctioning circuits, salvaging half the units and keeping communications operational.
Lithium-ion technology has advanced dramatically in recent decades, and Meircell has been at the forefront of harnessing it. “A battery that once provided 2,000 mAh now delivers up to 4,000 mAh at the same weight,” says Tayeb. “These extra 15 minutes of drone flight time can mean the difference between failure and success on the battlefield.”

Looking Ahead

Meircell continues to invest heavily in R&D, attending international defense expos, collaborating with partners worldwide, and constantly pushing the limits of energy technology. Many of its most innovative solutions have originated from direct field requests, leading to customized designs that outperform standard market offerings.
“We are driven by real operational needs,” concludes Tayeb. “When clients come to us with requirements that don’t yet exist, we take it as our mission to make them a reality.”
